we don't get enough time to plan the trip so it was a totally unplanned trip and its first unplanned trip me resulting in anxiety and fear we both have that feeling till we reach igatpuri railway station. when we reach their our anxiety and fear level boost like anything lol. because it's already 8.30 pm (IST) it's getting dark out there and we yet not able to find any local transport to the base village of kalsubai. finally, we get local transport rikshaw who charged us 100 bucks and dropped us at Vani phata which basically means a road that cuts the highways towards the village, now it been around 9.30 pm and we are standing in the middle of the market which is usually flooded with people and that day it's totally abandoned then we found one guy he said "You won't get any local transport from here to the base village BARI you have to walk for 500 metres and then you find one chowk and from there if you were lucky you'll get last bus or private cab for bari village" after hearing this we started to run towards that chowk. finally, we reached the chowk and from there we had waited for 45 mins there for local or any type of transport to get to the base village bari, as soon as possible.
Finally, we found one Mahindra Bolero Pickup fully packed with local labourers who are returning to their village from work. obviously, it's a no-brainer for us!! we climb up at the truck and sit there with them. believe me, it's the most beautiful journey of my life from that chowk to the base village bari. we started singing along with them some local folk songs and the sky is full of stars we both are in pure bliss! Due to the lack of any lights and civilization nearby, the road makes a great stargazing spot.
We reached the base village bari at around 10:35 pm (ist) after that we google hotels nearby we found one called Sahyadri hotel the person on other side promises us to came down from that hill to receive us so we can get there easily. that hotel was situated on the hill so we have to walk towards that hill. I asked some locals about the hotels' location then we moved forward from making way from Jungels we found one road to the hills. the guy who supposed to get down and pick us up didn't show up so we decided to go by ourselves. this gave us life long lesson that we should never depend on anyone for anything. you yourself are the only person that you can and ought to rely on!! anyways, we started our first trek from here only. it was a Pitch-dark night so we put out our torches and started moving forward after 30mins of slight steep trek we reached the hotel. they served us dinner a typical Maharashtrian dinner very delicious. we moved to our tents and set campfire it was a proper and probably the best old monk situation we could think. but definitely, we didn't drink. but it was a great and chill moment after a hectic and very disturbing year!
When mountains summon, the experience of life is beyond words. Trekking the highest peak of Maharashtra, Kalsubai, was super thrilling; learned several life lessons throughout the journey.
